What is your complex carbon emission ?

ExxonMobil, is one of the world’s largest traded oil and gas companies in the world, based in Dallas and run by Darren Woods. The public company has a major objective: develop and applies next-generation technologies to help safely and responsibly meet the world’s growing needs for energy and high-quality chemical products.

In 2016, the Paris agreement adopted during the COP21 in Paris to reduce global emissions has forced compagnies to act to reduce their carbon footprint. ExxonMobil then developed CCS “Carbon Capture & Storage” to reduce industrial CO2 emissions. Now they want to go further and declare they are committed to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 for their own operations.

It is for this purpose that ExxonMobil has partnered with Group SJR and Groove Jones an award-winning extended reality developer to create an application with an augmented immersive experience which allows to visualize complex carbon emission data. A very innovative and important tool to showcase how Carbon Capture Storage (CCS) can remove 90% of Industrial CO2 Emissions. An innovation that they presented during the Las Vegas World Petroleum Congress in December 2021.

But how does it work? During the congress, visitors were invited to scan a QR code with their smartphones to activate the immersive and interactive experience. The app uses powerful 3D data visuals, but also WeBAR and WebGL technology to produce cross -platform experiences to visualize the data emissions. Once on the app, you get to experience impressive 3D animation and AR. You want to learn more about ExxonMobil’s action? Tap the world icon in the navigation bar on the application and you are taken to a 3D view of the world where you can learn about all the current examples of how ExxonMobil is committed and develop advancing innovative solutions for a lower carbon energy future. “Do you know what does 100 million metric tons of CO2 look like ?” Well according to ExxonMobil’s app, 100 million metric tons of CO2 could power 22 million passenger vehicles or all the cars in Texas.

According to ExxonMobil the company’s emission reduction plans by using those innovative technologies will reduce by 2030 absolute greenhouse gas emissions by an estimated 20% of the entire corporation. In addition, absolute flaring and methane emissions are expected to decrease by 60% and 70%, respectively.
